Autism Spectrum Disorder Experience Exhibition:  閉傢伙

ASD_Character Design_1.png

According to the Child Assessment Service, Autism spectrum disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder. Patients in social, cognitive, and emotional development have different degrees of impairment and deviance. As diagnostic criteria of updating, some developmental disorder has been referred to as A.S.D.

In recent years, the number of patients with autism spectrum disorder (A.S.D.) has risen in Hong Kong. Although society has provided a range of assistance to help them to build practical communication skills, there is a lack of publicity in graphics and advertising to educate the public on A.S.D. As a result, there is a misunderstanding of this disorder, which increases the patient's anxiety and burden.

The objective of this project is to eliminate the misunderstanding of mass in patients with autism spectrum disorder and let them provide appropriate support for patients in their daily life.

「閉」傢伙

Children with autism appear to be a troublemaker, naughty little devils, but they may not be willing to make some bad situations in every moment and every second. It is hoped that this identity can make the public curious about A.S.D. and take the initiative to understand and tolerate autistic children.

Exhibition Poster

There are a total of six posters here, and I mainly want to use this series of posters to show the external pressure on them and the differences between them and others.

In the first three posters, I want to express the differences in thinking patterns between autistic children and other children by using

repeated portraits.

In the last three posters, I used some patterns to express the pressure of the outside world on them.

I have designed a free application that provides information about autism spectrum disorders to the general public. People can not only participate in various activities to help children with autism but also learn ways to get along with autistic children from playing games.

During the exhibition, the public can use the app to interact with some of the works and explore the world of autistic children in a relaxed and interesting way.

Cards

I designed a set of little cards that concisely describe the characteristics of autistic children. Therefore, people who have not downloaded the app can also recognize autistic children from these cards.

The idea behind the card is to show that autistic children have difficulty focusing on one thing for long periods of time, such as reading words.  When we close the black page, we can quickly and easily read the key points of the card, just as autistic children think.

Mirror

I designed three mirrors with people commenting on them.

All of these comments are biased towards the negative, and when people stand here and look in the mirror, they will feel the negative comments as if they are talking about themselves. Therefore,  they will reflect on their own behavior and society's attitude towards autistic children, which will motivate people to actively learn more about autistic children.

The shape of the mirror is a twisted circle, representing people's ugly words. The contents of the mirror are determined according to the height of the mirror. The lower the mirror, the more often it is heard.
